Updates / Journey
Camera being taken to the icesheets of Greenland with Sally R. starts in Swansea.
We will fly via Copenhagen to Greenland where we are being airlifted by helicopter to the ice sheets to camp out and do hydrological field work. We are leaving on 19th June!!
Taken to Heathrow before flying on to Greenland
just at Heathrow, enjoying a drink before the flight to Copenhagen :)
Flown on to Copenhagen with Sally R.
Just about to leave Copenhagen, hopefully there will be a signal in Greenland :)
Arrived at the Research Station in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland
We've arrived in Greenland, but our equipment is still on a ship somewhere!!! Staying at the research station until it arrives and then will head out on to the ice sheet.
Waiting at the Research Station, as weather is too bad to go out to the ice sheets today.
Equipment has all arrived and is now waiting in the aircraft hanger. We will start relaying up onto the ice sheets today by helicopter, if the weather holds out, but now the weather is too bad to fly. It is really foggy outside and it has been snowing. we're making the most of the creature comforts while we wait!
Off into the field with the Greenland ice sheet cameras.
Right, lovely sunny day and we're off into the field with the cameras :) Bit of a drama last night, one of our party cut the top of his finger off, luckily for us the Americans here have good medics and it's all good, he'll just have to boss everyone else around and not lift anything for a while!! There was a huge party in town last night with fireworks, which was very strange seeing as it didn't really get dark!! Greenland got home governance from Denmark yesterday so the locals were all up for a party! Catch you when we get back
Returned to the Project by Sally R
Back safe and sound with two of the cameras, both of which are full of photos.
